How to call an ambulance
When you call 119, a dispatcher (fire department operator) will ask you questions in order to dispatch an ambulance.
If the situation is highly urgent, the ambulance may be dispatched before all questions are asked.
(1) Inform the dispatcher that it is a medical emergency.
(2) Provide the address where you need the ambulance.
(3) Describe the symptoms of the person in need.
(4) Provide the person's age.
(5) Give your name and contact information.
- If there is someone nearby who can speak Japanese, please ask for their help. Stay calm and answer slowly.
- For emergency calls from foreigners, three-way simultaneous interpretation is available in English, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
