Characteristics of Pennella


At most, some reach several tens of centimeters.

Parasitize targets

The anchor-shaped head sinks into muscle and the tail part sticks out of the fishes’ body.


There are many Pennella species and only females parasitize fish.

Impacts on human

It does not parasitize human beings.

Major seafood hosts

Pacific saury, marlin
